Ten Years

It seemed like forever, getting from birth to 10-years-old; however, being married for ten years has gone by in a blink. Why is that? Time flies when you're having fun? In August, we reached that milestone. Ken took me to Monterey for a few days, which it turns out is a totally different place than I experienced on field trips in grade school -- good food, great company and a really long bike ride along the coast.

I still have to blog our summer in California, but I've skipped ahead to our anniversary gift to each other: a trip to Istanbul and Nairobi to go on safari in September. We had a wonderful time and though I was tempted to pet the big cats, I managed to stay in our safari van. Here are some pictures from the trip -- please excuse the sheer number. There are too many pictures from the safari to do anything but a slideshow.

ISTANBUL
The Blue Mosque

Interior with blue and white painted tiles.

The Spice Bazaar

Fortress of Europe -- base of Mehmet before conquering Constantinople.

Topkapi Palace - The Harem - home to the sultan and his women...many women.

Sultan's quarters

Grand Bazaar

Hagia Sophia -- once a basilica, then a mosque and now a museum.
Mosaic within the Hagia Sophia of Mary, Jesus and John the Baptist. Amazing what one can do with tiny tiles.

View from the windows and through the domes of the Hagia Sophia to the Blue Mosque.

Basilica cistern -- once held the city's water supply.

NAIROBI and MAASAI MARA
